Nancy Opalko

My intrest in basket weaving began in 2005, a class taught by Mark Barns at the local library in Oxford. He was an inspiring teacher both in the field and the class room. My studies also include classes at the John C. Campbell Folk School with tradional reed and introduced me to the process of dying materials. I have use both natural and synthetic fiber dyes on split kudzu vines with great success.

The twist and spirals that the vines create find their way into my weaving and recreate their look of the forrest. I am able to create unique handles and frams for my baskets.
